The choice of thickness depends on mechanical constraints and size:
- 0.25 mm: Short-term indoor POS displays and ultra-thin light labeling.
- 0.50 mm: Linear dressing, promotional panels, and wall displays.
- 0.75 mm (pull force ~65 g/cm²): Professional standard for vehicle graphics subjected to road vibrations.
- 1.0 to 1.5 mm: Small contact formats or holding denser loads.
- 2 to 5 mm: Industrial applications and heavy technical mountings.
We also offer ultra-powerful neodymium rubber. Contact our workshop for a specific quote.
Our magnetic rubbers can be cut according to your workshop equipment:
- Digital flatbed (Zünd, Kongsberg...): Oscillating blade or tangential drag knife up to 1.5 mm.
- Straight guillotine: Perfect for straight cuts and thick materials (up to 5 mm).
- Winder/slitter: For custom roll width cutting from our jumbos.
- Friction-feed plotter: Reserved exclusively for 0.25 mm with a new 60° blade.
Workshop tip: Regularly clean the cutting surface as magnetic residues stick to metal surfaces.
To ensure flatness and magnetic performance:
- In rolls: Always roll with the magnetic side facing inward (printable side outward) on a 76 mm (3") core minimum. Store vertically or suspended on a rack.
- Flat: Stack perfectly aligned without any foreign objects between the sheets.
- Environment: Temperature-controlled workshop (15-25 °C), 40-60% humidity.
Keep away from massive ferrous sources or electric motors to preserve magnetization.
Anisotropy results from a controlled alignment of magnetic particles during extrusion: magnetic energy is 100% concentrated on the working face.
Concrete benefits for the printer:
- Pull force increased by 30 to 40% compared to an isotropic product of the same thickness.
- You use a thinner, lighter, and more flexible media for the same mechanical hold, greatly facilitating printing and handling.
The 0.25 mm and 0.75 mm thicknesses are available with or without a premium satin white PVC face, ready for direct printing without prior treatment or primer. All other thicknesses are supplied raw, without a ready-to-print coating.
The satin white PVC surface is compatible with major large-format technologies: UV inks (flatbed or roll), Latex, eco-solvent, and heavy solvent.
Machine recommendations:
- In roll-to-roll: Disable or mask the metal vacuum table using an interleaving film so the media doesn't drag when the carriage advances.
- Print profiles: Use a moderate drying curve and a standard vinyl film profile.
A free sample allows you to validate before ordering.
Yes, you can apply a cold lamination (monomeric or polymeric) or an inline selective UV varnish.
Workshop precautions:
- Do not use hot lamination (> 80 °C): the thermoplastic elastomer matrix may expand, warp, and lose some of its magnetic strength.
- Calibrate tension during laminating to avoid any curling or memory effect on the finished media.
Yes, but only with our 0.75 mm anisotropic range (pull force ~65 g/cm²), which is fully proven for vehicle graphics.
Professional rules for your clients:
- Anti-UV polymeric lamination recommended to protect the ink and facilitate regular cleaning.
- Cut with rounded corners to prevent wind lift at high speeds.
- Apply to clean, smooth, and flat bodywork; weekly removal is recommended for bodywork upkeep.
Magnetic elastomer is the active element (magnetized), while ferrous elastomer is a passive receiving surface, made of a flexible matrix loaded with iron particles. Ferrous rubber serves as a fixed base (mounted on a wall or rigid panel), allowing your clients to change printed visuals on magnetic rubber in seconds without damaging the base.
Our standard ferrous rubber has a calibrated thickness of 0.6 mm.
This technical compromise was validated in our own production workshop to guarantee:
- Ideal flexibility for rolling and application without risk of permanent creasing.
- Optimal ferrous load density providing excellent magnetic attraction.
No: solid steel sheeting or a lacquered metal panel offers superior magnetic hold because the metal mass is pure and continuous. Since ferrous rubber is composed of a loaded polymer resin, the grip is about 60 to 70% of that of solid steel. However, it is perfectly suited for holding 0.25 mm (20 g/cm²) labeling magnets or stronger ones.
The 0.6 mm ferrous rubber can be worked with:
- Digital flatbed cutter (Zünd, Kongsberg): Universal or oscillating blade for precise contours and clean edges.
- Print shop guillotine: Very effective for straight stack cuts.
- Workshop utility knife with steel ruler: Perfectly suited for on-site adjustments.
Avoid vinyl friction-feed plotters, which are unsuited to the weight and thickness of the resin. We can quote for cutting this media to your dimensions.
Yes, we offer a complete printer-to-printer subcontracting service:
- High-definition direct UV printing on the white PVC face.
- Application of high-tack adhesive on the back and matte or gloss protective lamination.
- Digital custom shape cutting.
- Neutral packaging and direct drop-shipping using your delivery notes (white label).
- Winding: Always printable or adhesive face outwards on a 76 mm (3") core to prevent delamination of the protective liner.
- Storage: Preferably vertical on a rack or flat on a level pallet.
- Temperature: Between 15 and 25 °C, protected from humidity.
The ferrous rubber is coated with a white PVC compatible with all market inks: UV (flatbed or roll), Latex, eco-solvent, and solvent. We use each medium on our own machines: feel free to tell us your equipment or test it directly by requesting a sample.
We use a modified, high-cohesion solvent acrylic adhesive reinforced with a non-woven mesh, selected for its permanent hold on smooth and flat surfaces (melamine, Forex, Dibond, sheet metal, painted drywall).
Application recommendations:
- Setting time: Allow 24 to 48 hours to cure at room temperature before bearing any load or applying magnetic visuals.
- The ferrous base can also be supplied raw without glue if you prefer to mount your own usual adhesive.
Instant-curing UV and UV LED inks perfectly preserve the optical structure of the media. Solvent, eco-solvent, and Latex inks are also compatible with our photoluminescent vinyls.
Ask us for a sample to verify compatibility if in doubt.
Warning: the ink acts as an optical mask, printed areas will lose their photoluminescent capacity.
These are three distinct optical principles:
- Phosphorescent (photoluminescent): Stores ambient light energy and autonomously releases it gradually in total darkness for several hours (safety/evacuation).
- Fluorescent: Transforms UV rays into bright visible light only during exposure; the effect stops instantly when the source goes out.
- Retro-reflective: Instantly bounces light back to the emitting source (headlights, flashlights) via geometric reflection.
Activation time depends on light intensity and spectrum:
- Standard indoor lighting (office, workshop, 300 to 500 lux): Full charge reached in 10 to 15 minutes.
- Optimal sources: Daylight and cool sources rich in UV/blue (LED 4000-6500 K, fluorescent tubes).
- Warm sources (halogens, yellow LED < 3000 K): Slower charge requiring longer exposure to reach full saturation.
Once in darkness, the media releases this energy on a declining curve perceptible for about 6 hours (Class C) and about 10 hours (Class D).
This duration varies depending on the photoluminescent material's class. We offer 2 photoluminescent ranges:
- Class C: 6 h of maximum glow. Luminance: 160 mcd/m² after 10 minutes, 20 mcd/m² after 1 h. Ideal standard for indoor evacuation in public buildings and professional premises.
- Class D: 10 h of maximum glow. Luminance: 260 mcd/m² after 10 minutes, 35 mcd/m² after 1 h. Recommended for marine use (IMO/SOLAS standards), tunnels, and high-demand industrial sites.
Luminance is an indicator of the visual sensation of a surface's brightness. It is measured in microcandela/m² (mcd/m²).
Our 2 ranges meet the international ISO 17398 standard, which dictates minimum brightness performance for photoluminescent signage.
No, absolutely not. Chemistry has evolved: modern formulations use inorganic strontium aluminate crystals doped with rare earths (europium, dysprosium). These components are totally stable, non-toxic, contain no dangerous heavy metals, no pure phosphorus, and are strictly non-radioactive (REACH and RoHS compliant). They offer a luminance 10 times more intense than the old zinc sulfides.
The physical phenomenon of crystalline charge/discharge is inexhaustible: strontium aluminate pigments do not degrade over time.
The lifespan therefore depends on the base material holding the coating:
- Indoors: Our vinyls and PVC sheets retain their usability properties for over 15 to 20 years.
- Outdoors: 5 to 7 years depending on climate exposure, extendable with a suitable anti-UV lamination and edge sealing.
Yes, any pigment layer applied to the surface forms a screen that blocks photon absorption and reduces nighttime light emission. The denser and darker the ink, the more it blocks the luminescence. A pure black blocks 100% of the radiation, while a translucent tint reduces it by 50 to 70%.
Printer recommendation: Design your layouts by utilizing the phosphorescent background as unprinted negative space to highlight messages and symbols. Order our sample kit to test real contrast in a dark room.
Our photoluminescent media are easily processed depending on their nature:
- Flexible adhesive vinyls (250 µm in classes C and D): Vinyl plotter with a 60° blade and increased pressure, or guillotine.
- Rigid PVC boards (850 µm): Digital flatbed with oscillating knife or router, straight guillotine, or workshop shear.
Workshop tip: Because the mineral filler is abrasive, regularly check the sharpness of your cutting blades.
To preserve flatness and the adhesive complex:
- Store rolls on their core (76 mm) vertically or suspended on racks in their hermetic protective film.
- Recommended workshop temperature: 15 to 25 °C with 50% relative humidity.
- Avoid storing rolls stacked flat without protective spacers to prevent any marking or crushing of the material.
A retro-reflective film bounces incident light directly back to its emitting source (vehicle headlights or flashlights), providing nighttime visibility without an independent electrical power supply.
Two manufacturing technologies coexist:
- Glass beads (class RA1)
- Sealed microprisms (classes RA2 and RA3)
The range we offer is microprismatic (RA2).
- Glass bead technology (RA1): Microscopic glass spheres dispersed in a resin. Moderate reflectivity (~50 to 70 cd/lx/m²), high flexibility, attractive cost, ideal for advertising stickers and low-speed urban signage.
- Microprismatic technology (RA2/RA3): Geometric structure of total reflection micro-pyramids. Light yield greater than 180 cd/lx/m², long-range visibility (> 250 m), increased outdoor durability, and mandatory legal compliance on road networks.
The European standard EN 12899-1 classifies films according to their coefficient of retro-reflection. The values below are the minimums required for white, at 0.33° observation and 5° entrance angle; they are lower for other colors:
- Class RA1 (Class 1): Standard retroreflection (50 cd/lx/m²). Suitable for parking lots, private roads, and well-lit urban areas.
- Class RA2 (Class 2): High-performance microprismatic (180 cd/lx/m²). Mandatory on regional and national roads, highways, and service vehicles. This is the standard of our offer.
- Class RA3 (Class 3): Very high intensity (300 cd/lx/m²) for highly accident-prone areas and overhead gantries.
Yes, direct printing is feasible, particularly in UV ink technology or screen printing with approved translucent inks.
Please note: Opaque inks mask the underlying optical prisms. To maintain the reflection level required by standards, keep retro-reflective areas as an unprinted/white background or apply calibrated translucent inks.
Yes, our class RA2 microprismatic vinyls are certified for these uses:
- Marking of security and emergency vehicles: Red and white chevrons (TPESC homologation / ministerial decree).
- Marking of commercial fleets and heavy goods vehicles: Side and rear safety strips compliant with ECE 104 regulation.
- Permanent and temporary road signage compliant with NF EN 12899-1 standard requirements.
Since microprismatic film is more rigid and structured than standard vinyl, apply these workshop settings:
- Digital flatbed (Zünd, Kongsberg): Use an oscillating or steep-angle tangential blade with moderate machining speed to avoid chipping the prismatic cells.
- Roll plotter: 60° blade with high pressure (thick/flock material type).
- Print shop guillotine: Straight cuts without difficulty using a well-sharpened blade.
Sealing: Recommended on the edges for permanent outdoor applications.
To preserve the geometric integrity of the sealed microprisms:
- Suspend the rolls horizontally on a rack by their 76 mm core or store them vertically in their original box with holding flanges.
- Never place a roll directly on the floor or loose: linear pressure crushes the prisms and creates irreparable dead bands.
- Store in a heated workshop (18 to 22 °C), shielded from direct UV rays.
You must apply an ultra-transparent cast lamination film specifically validated for retro-reflective media. A standard, non-transparent lamination would degrade the refraction angle and compromise the RA2 photometric certification.
Our class RA2 microprismatic retro-reflective films are designed for outdoor use. Durability depends on the reference:
- Solid colors (grey, yellow, orange): 7 to 10 years depending on exposure.
- Hatched films (white/red, yellow/black): 2 years.
Influencing factors:
- Climate and direct sunlight (accelerated degradation in strong southern exposure).
- Application angle: Vertical application is ideal; a tilted application retains water and accelerates soiling.
- Finishing: Applying an anti-UV lamination and sealing the edges guarantees maximum durability.
Yes, you can select several distinct references (different magnetic thicknesses, ferrous, C and D photoluminescent, RA2 retro-reflective) directly from our online form to conduct your workshop tests.
